MoM - Nov 09 (22nd Nov)

CSS Meeting- 22nd November 2009

Major discussions-

1. Children’s day event planned on 29th November when most CSS members celebrating their November birthday could join with children at Sadana- School for Deaf and Dumb

2. The event has been finalized to help with some basic requirements at the school

3. The expenses per head as been marked as Rs. 100; including lunch and other entertainment expenses

4. Tiru will confirm the requirements at the home

5. Entertainment at the home will be taken care by Prithvi- Tambola, Venkat- picture game, Swami Sir- word scramble, the music will be handled by REC college students music troupe

6. New members’ introduction followed by Mrs. Lakshmi’s idea on prompting environment among school children.
a. Mrs. Lakshmi is part of Parent Teacher association at PSBB, Tnagar and would like to rope in VII and VIII class students to draw up an elaborate plans to involve lower standard students in environment based events like painting, collage, sapling plating training and also to take up this cause during PTA meets through sapling distribution to parents and children on the day or even a felicitation of winners during assembly on any environment related games
b. CSS invites members to make this a successful venture for the children

7. Changes in Teams-
a. Aravanaippu- will be headed by Swaminathan Sir assisted by Charumathi
b. Reddrops- this will be handled by Venkat, Satish and Sathish(Thalai)
c. Child Abuse Prevention- will be headed by Nandhini and assisted by Balasaraswathy
d. Gramudharan- Team will be headed by Lata and assisted by Jagdish- follow up on SHG status at Vayalur and December plans for Meenabalpuram
e. Environment care group- Will headed by Hari, Varshitha and Vasu and assisted by Tiru
f. ECG finalized the volunteers who will be assisting Tiru and his Team in smooth sapling distribution
g. The first sapling will be given free while subsequent sapling costs Rs. 10

8. Nominated few homes and orphanages for corporate sponsorship through Prithvi

9. Julian, CRY is running a campaign on Right To Education bill for children below 14 year of age

10. Hari has forwarded request for Mr. Sundarmoorthy for helping his disabled brother and his sister

11. Murali will be addressing the School students of X and XII on career guidance this Friday 27th November 2009 from 1.30pm at Swaminathan Sir's Schoo

MoM - 3rd week August 09 (16th August)

1. Nalanda Updates-

  • Identify areas like slums and slum clearance board housing places for school children who have dropped out or stopped education due to financial reasons and draw up plans to bet them back to schools preferrably by next academic year.
  • Sponsorship for poor deserving students- requirement for Santhiya P studying at Saidapet Government school in XI has been accepted by Pasupathi and Sangeetha, an amount of Rs. 500 towards her education.
  • Another requirement for a college hostel student towards her hostel fees per month Rs 1500/-
  • A requirement for a school based in Pudhukottai has been decided to be referred any other NGO based there as it would be difficult to oversee the help at a far place.
  • A visually challenged student from MCC has a funding requirement
    Sridhar suggests CSS members to visit his employer's CSR division with definite proposals, plan to be chalked out.
  • SWARG- an NGO exclusive workingfor students education.
  • CSS wishes to thank Ms. Sindhu for being kind in sponsoring to 2 physically challenged students every month Rs. 250/-
2. Aravanaippu-
Jagdish has already been to slums in Mylapore and idenified 5 streets where more than 5500 people live. On discussing with the councillor they came to know that they require counselling on ill effects of tobacco products and basic hygiene among girls and pregnant ladies. The volunteers lead by Swami Sir, Jagdish and Anish will visit the are on Thrusday at 4.30pm Murali an Dr. Ashwin might join. Swami Sir plans to speak about swine flue precautions

3. VScribe-

  • VScribe is conducting Sports meet for Hearing impaired children studying at Schools
    The event is planned on 30th August at CP Ramaswamy Foundation at Alwarpet
  • The games to be conducted are Chess and Carrom
  • Prizes to be awarded for winners with participation certificate for participants
    there is no restriction on no. of participants
  • Parthiban will be the team lead for the event, supported by Jagdish.

4. ECG

  • 500 smses received till date from 26th July till 15th August 2009
  • Third successful week into SMS-a-SAPLING, already 300+ saplings planted across Chennai and more than 1000 Saplings distributed to CSS volunteers
  • Zones segregated and team leads for zones alloted, prominent ones- Prithvi- Adyar, Renga, Bharath- Perambur, Mylapore/Triplicane- Jagdish/ Anish, Nikesh- Tnagar
  • Tiru has been leading from the front.............................ably supported by Renga, Priya, Varshitha and Vasu
5. Gramudharan
  • Pradeep and Swami Sir have been visiting the Vayalur regularly, twice a month and monitoring the progress of the boys for cricket, they plan to hold a small tournament in Vayalur and then winners will be put to test with Chennai lads, starting September
  • Lata, Murali, Dr Ashwin were among few volunteers who have visited Vayalur this Sunday and held a meeting with the womens group, the guest of honour was Mrs. Gomathi a SHG leader in Chennai.

6. Guest of the Week
Olga from Goonj, a team exclusively looking after poor rural people including maximum usage of the discarded or reasonably good clothes, and any other articles even safety pins. They work all over India with instant support extended to disaster victims. At present collecting clothes with their major campaign starting on 23rd September till 3rd October 2009 called as 'Give India' interested people can visit www.goonj.org for details. CSS is collecting clothes on behalf of Goonj, interested people can contact Satish @98406 61732.

8. Independence Day Celebrations
  • CSS's Volunteer Sathyamoorthy had a rare priviledge of hoisting Indian Tricolor on Independence day at a function organised by Annanagar West welfare association.
  • CSS was pleased to take part in the independence day celebrations of Gurukulam school, our warmest greetings to Capt. Nandkumar and his team of dedicated teachers at Kovalam school.

1. Nalanda-
Second week of tutoring for students at Madras Seva Sadan for IX, & X . Pramod coordinated with volunteers and 8 volunteers were present on the day. The session was from 10am to 1.00pm on Saturday 20th June


2. Aravanaippu-
Jeyabala and Praveena are coordinating the list orphange and old age lis in Chennai
Udhavi Trust, a group supporting slum children education have been pledged an amount of Rs. 7500 from Lavanya's father and CSS as part of Lavanya's wedding; Bala will be coordinating with Jeetu in purchase of school stationery for the children
Tution requirement for children at Child Trust- their subjects and other details to be gathered
Sai a english lecturer would like to volunteer for taking classes for students at Vayalur


3.Gramudharan-
Pradeep and Swaminathan have begun their cricket coaching at Vayalur village
Lata will be compiling the list of activities over the span of next few weeks culminating in health camp
Lata will be posting us te budget and various other proposals for Garmudharan
Course fee waiver for SC/ST students taking up any graduation but with good grades- offered by Ford foundation

A temple needs our help in planting trees and also putting a stall to create awareness on harmful effects of plastics


6. Nalanda-

Sathish has referred his friend who is willing to sponsor education for aspiring students providd they score good grades and also give a commitment that they would help another 2 students after they begin to earn their living


7. Health Department-

Thara is a volunteer at Singhvi Trust and would be able to help anyone organising a health camp

8. Reddrops-

Newly designed site was launched and hats off to our Balaji to make this happen in a short time. Design is a very cool one and we request everyone to give their feedbacks on the same.


8. Vscribe-

Helen Keller day celebrations is posted for 27th June and volunteers have given name for volunteering.

Team visited the conference arranged by an oerganisation called SNEHA
Approached Tulir to undergo a training programme

NALANDA:
Summer session for teaching students of Olcott and Madras Seva Sadan school was completed successfully. Kudo's to Sangeetha and team.
Both the schools have approached us to take classes for 10th and 12th students on every weekends.

ECG:
Team of people visited the plastic re-cycling industry and gathered informations.
Details regarding papers bags and covers will be done by Jeethu

Swaminathan gave the lead regarding the paper bags.

ECG:
Will be having an activity at Adyar on 26th on the eve of the Earth day. Probably we will be planting a sapling over there and stressing the importance of BYOB.
Contents, posters, pamphlets will be ready in 2 months.

Nalanda:
Students of Seva Sadan school were poor in basic english and require some simple story books.
Volunteers required on daily basis to take classes for the 10th std students. Tutoring in tamil is highly appreciated.

DMG:
We will be having the orientation program on the first aid for all our members on 3rd May.
Place will be intimated very soon.(before this wednesday)

Gramoudharan:
We will be making our first official visit to the Vayalur village which we adopted on the 1st of May and will be playing a friendly cricket match with those young guns.
Timings and assembling place will be communicated soon.

RSG:
We have shot an awareness video on road safety with the prominent personality and will be taking few more. Later this clipping will be telecasted in channels and movie auditoriums.

VSCRIBE:

Project Coordinator- Updates

1. Earth Day- April 22nd
· Vijay would coordinate with Sahul, Ajith, Mrinalini, Kavitha and Jayanthi at their respective colleges for putting up Red drops posters and SMS a sapling posters and enroll volunteers for the main event on Wednesday April 22nd 2009
2. Village adoption- GramUdharan-
· Lata will provide us the report and requirements for us to take it forward with Tamil translation of the draft proposal to be put forward to village head man
· The Sports kit for cricket and Volley is awaiting approval from the CSS committee ad on approval getting ready to help the students prepare the ground
3. Health Team-
· Plans to kick start safety and health training or workshop in coordination with external agency; primarily to address volunteers first.
· Dr. Ashwin will be issuing the health card for future health camps and suggestion to hold a screening camp as the first measure before remedial measures the camps have been decided for Vayalur villagers and Vijayanagar residents near Velachery
· Peter- Adventure sports specialist on safety procedures- referred by Sandeep Vijay Nair
4. Volunteers-
· Murali has forwarded a database of 1000 volunteers to be used for various CSS activities. They can be utilized for Gramudharan project, Cancer Institute blood donation project and also for CSS activities

Environment Care Group-
1. Pradeep had introduced his Chennai Bikers club members Sandeep Vijay Nair and Rahul Vijay Nair to CSS. These biers have offered their jacket as a space to put the socially relevant messages and if possible ride with them to various points around the country and spreading awareness on various issues like environment, child abuse, BYOB, etc.
2. Branding can be done on their helmet too
3. Till date have donated more than 200 saplings with targeted numbers for this year before 26th July is 365. Last week had given 10 saplings to Anand Institute of Higher technology for their green club. The lead was given by Ms. Aparna, CSS volunteer
4. We have also given saplings to Aarthi for their annual agricultural fair at Anna University; totaling 50 saplings
5. Plans to distribute Cloth bags to members with BYOB message, already we have fined one of our members for carrying plastic bag with them, Rs. 10.

Aravanaippu-

1. Veena had visited a home nearer to her residence Babuji Gopal Home and further information is awaited

Nalanda-

1. Requirement for 2 students hailing from Trichy, the students come from poor background with no financial wherewithal to support the students, requirement for schooling and hostelling

Road Safety Group-

1. Development on video shoots for advertisement to be produced for Moon TV
2. Next a poem to be penned by Dr. Ananth for the video shoots and then to seek a celebrity endorsement

Reddrops-

1. Chennai Cancer Institute requires 100 volunteers every month to help their blood supply for patients

NALANDA:
Planning to conduct an awareness campaign along with CAP team.
Logo has been finalized (the one with the fish)
Motto or concept has been changed. From now on it will be "Educating Everyone"
Madras Seva Sadan has asked to provide training for their students on extra-curricular activities from 13th April onwards on daily basis.

VSCRIBE:
CSGAB has asked us to conduct their sports day on 29th Mar 09.
Scribe required for Harish, a special child for his degree examination.
Mathew from Loyola, has asked to provide scribes for their students during May semester examinations.

ECG:
Posters for SMS a sapling concept have been ready.
On March 28th between 8.30 to 9.30 pm earth hour will be observed. So all of them are hereby requested to switch off their lights for this one hour.

Red Drops:
Blood donation camp date was changed to Jun 14. Earlier it was decided to be conducted on Apr 26.
Site is being modified to enable city wide and state wide donor search.

ARAVANAIPPU:
Last week we visited Sadana, a school for deaf and dumb students. They put forwarded certain requirements for them. Looking for sponsors or some organisations to link with them.

GRAMOUDHARAN:
A team of poeple will be visiting the Vayalur village this week to resume the progress again.

Open session:
Since the holiday season is fast approaching, CSS planning to host a kids carnival for 3 days which is full of fun and also to impose our different team concepts into the young minds. Ideas and suggestions are welcome. Tentative dates for the carnival will be Apr 24-26 or May 1-3.

Tasks planned for next week:
1. Attending the scribe orientation program organized by ISCRIBE on 28th Mar between 11-1
2.Small steps is hosting a conference on how to reduce plastic, and its replacement on 29th Mar.
3. CSS will organize a sports day for visually challenged students on 29th Mar at Thakkar Bapa Vidhyalaya.

Highlights of this week:
1. Successfully organized the special show of the movie Naan Kadavul on 7th Feb. Total fund collected is Rs. 8860/-
2. Sathish Bonthu and Mahesh visited a home called SAMARPANA where children require some clothes immediately. Sathish Bonthu will draft a mail to get permission for cloth collecting drive in apartments.
3. Project of NALANDA kick started this week. 10 of our volunteers visited Madras Seva Sadan school on sat to teach their acamedic subjects. English Grammer is taught for std 10th and Science is taught from std 6 to 9. Session lasts for 2.5 hrs.

Open topics:
1. Shereen, who is heading "Velicham" organisation attended our meeting this week. She is helping the students for their education who were the first generation of people pursuing education from their locality. Due to the lack of academic fees 32 of the students are in the verge of drop out by this month. Total amount required is 7.5 lakhs (All of those were pursuing Engineering degree in various colleges).
We asked Shereen in present her requirements and stats in document format. Will discuss about this issue in the forthcoming meeting.

Activity:
After the meeting we visited Gnanavoli charitable trust children home at Velachery, where in 25 children are there at present also some of the old people. There are some requirements need to fulfilled for this home. Will discuss in the next meeting.

Planned for next week:
21st Feb - To teach academic subjects for the 9th std students of Madras Seva Sadan.

VSCRIBE:
Around 100+ visually challenged students, who are regular to PSBB reading session, got job as a teacher last month. Sai foundation will be congratulating all of them in this sunday at PSBB. All members are invited for the session.

Environment Care group:
We planted 27 saplings at the Gurukulam trust school this week. Handed over 10 more saplings to them as the back up. Also 23 saplings were distributed to our members. (We got saplings from the ISHA foundation at Rs. 5/- each)

Nalanda:
We are starting to teach some subjects for the school students at Madras Seva Sadan, Chetpet on every saturday. Please refer the relevant forum to know more updates and enroll urself.

Aravanaippu:
We are in the process of identifying the homes which requires more attention, and also talks going on with the corporates and other sponsors inorder to preserve such homes in what ever way possible.

Highlights of this week:
1. We have successfully conducted a fund raising event by organising a special show of the movie "NAAN KADAVUL" on 7th Feb 09. The exact amount raised will be anounced in the next week minutes. (Roughly around Rs. 10000/- has been collected).

2. In the process of identifying 75 children and 25 old people for the social marriage on March 8, 80% of the work is completed. I will come out with the complete details in the next week's meet.

3. Volunteers required on 22nd Feb at Valluvar koattam. Timing, number required and many more will be confirmed in the next meet (Responsible: Sathish Bonthu)

Planned for next week:
Will be visiting a home after the meeting at Valluvar Koattam. Details will be circulated to everyone through mails and messages (Responsible: Tiru and Venkat)

Ganga Viswanathan suggested that will conduct Blood Donation, Eye Donation campaigns at colleges, banks etc.

Environment Care Group:
Regarding 1750 saplings which we planned to give for a social marriage(as discussed
last week), Bonthu and Tiru met Govindasamy and they responded positively.

Probably we will be visiting Gurukulam school, Koavalam by next sunday at 7 A.M. for
tree planting.

VSCRIBE:
Successfully aranged 8 scribes for the IOB clerical exam which took place at
Aavichchi school, Saligramam on 1st Feb at 10 A.M.

Highlights of this week:
1. Attended the Republic day function at the Gurukulam school, Koavalam and
everyone of us were stunned on seeing the activities which Capt. Nandakumar is
doing over there.

2. Murali's colleague Mrs. Krishnaveni handed over a advance of Rs. 20000
(social marriage)

3. For the social marriage, we identified 53 students from Gurukulam and also we
handed over a cheque of Rs. 11130 to the Captain.(one set of uniform = Rs. 210)

4. 20 elderly women were identified from Mr. Hebert old age home. New sarees will
be distributed to them on the function (March 8th)

5. Nominations have been finalized for Jackpot contest. (Venkat, Aarthy, Sailaja, Balasaraswathy)

Planned for next week:
Fund Raising event - Senthil and Venkat will approach Satyam asking permission to host a special show of "Naan kadavul".

Reddrops - Online blood donation site will be launched this week (Balaji)
Nalanda - Orphanages need to be identified for providing education to the under
privileged children based on three schemes (Person Responsible - Nandhini)
Gramoudharan - Will be taking our step at Vayalur village by the mid of Feb (Latha Babu)
Aravanaippu - Udhavum Ullangal located at St. Thomas Mt., contains 60 kids. Need
assistance on some medicines. Plans to link some organisation or an
individual to sponsor them (Preseon responsible - Praveena)
ECG - Tiru visited Pulipakkam and planted around 200 saplings over there. Very soon an
event will be organised to plant more saplings there by CSS (Tiru)
4. Open topics
1. Murali's colleague want to organize a social marriage.
Requirement - 25 old age people and 75 children
plans to organize a blood, eye and organ donation awareness camp over there.
Also to give saplings for all the visitors.
Marraige is on 8th March 09.
2. Underprivileged students were being offered a training at a computer institute at

4. CRY conducted a event at Kannagi Nagar and couple of our members attended it on

MoM - 3rd week Jan 09 (18th Jan)

Highlights of the week ending 17th Jan 09
Our New year event on 15th Jan at Juvinelle home was a great success.

3 of our members have attended the Unconference on 17th Jan,in which representatives from 31 other NGO's were also took part. Dr.Kalaam's vision on 2020 were taken into account. Very shortly yahoo group mail will be opened for the co-ordination among these various NGO's.

Reddrops online blood donors website will be launched on 26th Jan.

Nandakumar from Gurukulam have already invited CSS as a guest for the republic day event. This will be finalized in another couple of days.

Fund raising event - plan to conduct cricket tournament among the corporates by the end of Feb 09. (Person Responsible - Venkat)

Plans to put up a CSS stall in the exhibition at Chennai Trade Centre - DATES: 23rd to 26th Jan (Person Responsible - Varshitha)

Tamilnadu handicaped welfare association have welcomed our activites and asked us give the details, which can be published in their monthly magazine, Udhavum Karam.

Dr. Arjun Thomas, has stated that he will be supporting CSS during health camps.
Representatives from CSS will be meeting him in person soon.

Ramya(lecturer), member of CSS have given a lead to give a presentation by CSS in her
college. Board of members will follow-up this.

All the team leads were asked to give proposal of their respective team activities for the
next one year.

MoM 2nd week Jan 09 (11th Jan)

1. Juvinelle Home Event:
Discussion:
As discussed earlier we are conducting a new year event(both tamil and english new year) at Juvinelle home, Purasawakkam on 15th Jan 09 between 2 to 6 pm. Its a combination event from our volunteers along with the students of the home. Certificates and snacks will be sponsored by CSS.
Action:
Murali, member of CSS, have organised a programme from Raju Sundaram's group. All the volunteers are requested to assemble at the venue before 01:30 pm.

2. UnConference:
Discussion:
Based upon Our former president Dr. Kalam's vision of India 2020, certain NGO's were participating on the conference and CSS have been one among them. Totally around 35 organisations are taking part in it.

3. Reddrops:
Discussion:
As you all know that CSS is encouraging blood donationa and also highlight the required donors at the needed time, it has been decided to initiate the online website for blood donation.
Action:
Thus, a website called "Red drops" have been bought and it has been planned to launch the site on 26th Jan 09. This will be headed by Balaji.
All members are requested to bring the volunteers to feed them into our database. A unique registration form will be prepared for this purpose.

4. Increasing the volunteer strength:
Discussion:
We are having 1200+ volunteers in orkut and also 180+ officially registered persons. But at the most only 50 are participating in events, meetings, etc.
Action:
Thus, inorder to pull those inactive volunteers, one of our member Nandhini, individually scrapped to those members who joined CSS though orkut in 2008. There is a good response for her initiative. She has approached 15 members and among those 5 were ready to support economically and 3 members were turned up for the meeting and few were promised to attend the future meetings.

Nandhini will be activating more of such volunteers.

5. Open Topics:

Sathaya Sir, referred CSS to take part in Jackpot programme in Jaya TV. 3 girls and one guy is needed. Registering for this is under progress. We will be representing there in another 3 or 4 months period. Shailaja is taking care of this.

Nandhini, has asked financial support for a student who has done ITI for 3 months.

The plan of putting stall in the Book fair has been denied since it is too late. Few of our volunteers have visited the book fair and there were only 2 or 3 stalls used non-poly bags.

Prof. from SRM university has accepted to teach for visually challenged students.

An old women who is abandoned due to death of her children has been admitted to Annai Illam old age home by CSS.

Madras Seva Sadan's incharger has requested CSS to teach their students on saturdays for 2 to 3 hours.

Anna University civil dept., H.O.D. invited CSS to give presentation in one of their event which is going to take part on 20th Jan 09.


After the meeting was over, everyone marched on to the PUSH trust home in Redhills, which consists of 42 children. We went there... played with them...distributed the sweets... enjoyed and returned back with the lots of memories...

1. Celebration at Juvinelle home
Discussion:
EVENT PLAN
50% by our volunteers and remaining by the students of the home. Approximately 60 students are there.

Waiting for the availability from IAS officer for hosting the function. Most probably it will be in 2nd week of January.

2. Stall at book fair

Discussion: BAPASI is conducting 32nd book fair at St.George school from 8th to 18th Jan 09.

Action: Probable Dates: 14th to 18th Jan. We are planning to put up a fund raising stall.

3. NALANDA Team update

Discussion: For the last 3 weeks we are collecting funds from our members and also from outside sources for the semester fees of an Ethiraj college student.

Action: Total amount of Rs. 11000 have been collected and cheque will be forwarded to the college management. Thanks to everyone.
