Discussion Brief-

ARAVANAIPPU-
  • Thanikai's request for supporting a mentally challenged single mother through sewing machine as been supported by all- lead to be processed by Tiru and Swami Sir

  • Sadana has requested for tailoring tutor and Parthiban is coordinating with few sources; interested people can suggest someone- to be based at Kelambakkam

  • Month end birthday celebrations to be held at Hope trust; further discussion with members show unanimity for spending quality time with children rather than providing material benefits. Hence food will be sponsored and there will be some entertainment with children. No other commitments

The cancer patient at Dr. Kamatchi Memorial hospital will be given a cheque of Rs 5000 towards treatment costs. The patient was referred by Venkatraman Sir, and Prithvi shall hand over the cheque tomorrow

Prithvi had visited Goonj and has gathered information on their operations and our support to their efforts in identifying needy people to whom the collected clothes, utensils and any thing and everything can be given distributed.- Anybody willing to donate any usable things from clothes to safety pins to toys can contact CSS volunteers to donate, in turn given to Goonj center in Adyar. Visiting Goonj on 21st March- Prithvi to coordinate

2. Animal rights & Welfare- Prithvi has suggested undertaking an activity by way of supporting the Blue cross in preparing a first aid kit for admitted animals at the clinic so that the doctors can easily administer the aid to animals- Visit planned on 21st March- Prithvi to coordinate the visit timings

3. NALANDA- sponsorship for Quaid-e-Millet students doing MCA will not be taken up as the marks are way below the eligibility criteria and the students requirements has been supplemented from outside donors as per volunteers information

4. Paripoorna Bala Surkasha scheme has seen 18 donors coming forward to donate towards a poor students health care for a year- Thanks to all the volunteers

5. Olive Ridley Turtle campaign- till date the volunteers supporting this effort are many hence we can give our support when they are in need rather than crowding the place and wasting our resources

6. ECG- Cycle rally on March 27th Saturday from Marina beach- 20 cycles to be provided; volunteers having cycles can join the rally directly beginning at 8am. The cyclists will be provided with drink and bands and caps on paying Rs 200- Coordinator- Ashok of HCL

No plastic usage campaign at Velachery area to be taken up with modalities of implementation to be taken up by Priya in consultation with Prassanna

7. DMG- children's Hospital cleaning project to be coordinated by Murali by visiting the hospital and deciding on the modalities on ow to take up the project; Murali has suggested that Exnora will be involved in the project

ALERT training module on first aid has been postponed due to exams for college students and other commitments to members- tentatively after May 15th

8. Sandhya of Sundaram Finance has asked for dental doctors to assist in health camp near a Kancheepuram village- Murali and Anitha to coordinate

9. Media group suggestions- The road safety program to be planned in April or on a special day at Besant Nagar beach- Sathya- to coordinate

Highlights-
1. Nalanda
  • Sangeetha has started off her classes for 20 students in Mathematics at Saidapet Government School- Mon/Wed/ Fri- 3.00-4.00pm
  • REQ- volunteers willing to take classes for XI and XII Std students in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics contact or mail to sangeetha.
  • Possibility of supporting tutors through reimbursement of expenses
    contact BC college Hostel students for volunteering
2. ECG- SMS-a-SAPLNG
  • Done for Rainbow Warriors of Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan school- a novel initiative of the school students of primary standard with help from their parents and teachers
  • Last 2 weeks saplings have been distributed to school students on Sundays/Saturdays

3. FEB 14th
  • CSS Road Show- proposal to run a road show at Besant Nagar beach on lines of Raja issuing a letter seeking people's support in making road travel less dangerous and obeying the rules.
    The permission letters will be handed over to Traffic department- Jagdish and Hari
    Primarily Raja will issue letter n form of palm script to public and urging them to drive safely
    the Raja will be Murali, his sepoys will be Abdul, Lakshmi, Gunalan and Jagdish
    Raja will be proided with the costume; sepoys will wear dhoti and Thalappa
    Horse Chariot to be arranged by Murali
    Drums to be looked into
    The letter editing to be done by Vani and Aarthi and printed by Swami Sir
    Sridhar to coordinate with Swami Sir for costumes
    The event will be from 4.00 to 6.30pm at Besant nagar beach

4. May Day celebrations to be taken up by Loyola students as a fund raiser for Arunodaya Home. CSS can submit proposal for the any funding

5. Aravanaippu- The celebrations for this month will be taken up on 28th February coinciding with Holi celebrations at Sadana Home

6. Aakruthi's Chitra paintng competition to be held on 27th Feb with CSS being the volunteer team.


  • CSS to be given a stall with teams like ECG/ Aravainappu and CAP putting their ideas to people
    Possibility of street theater to be explored by Murali at the venue
    Possibility of roping in Fine Arts college students for stall decorations

7. Funds collected for Gnanadeepam Special School for Mentally challenged

8. Funds for a cancer stricken patient to be taken forward; patient suffering from cervical cancer

9. Disha's Paripoorna Bala Suraksha Scheme has 5 volunteers adopting children; scheme extended further for accommodating donors for 10000 identified disadvantaged children. Annual per child fund plan Rs 221.

10. Thanikai- an enthusiastic Disha volunteer working with children from poor background for training in football and has successfully transformed many students life.

11. Prassanna of CIOSA has put forward proposals for:

  • Cleaning Children's Hospital at Egmore- procedures and formalities to be identified
    Seva Mela with bigger no. of participants
    Taking up dropped out school students to come back to classes and also Nalanda supporting such activity when CIOSA identifies the school
    Organising tours to general public on social activism and volunteering.

MoM - Jan '10


CSS January Meet- 3rd January 2010

The meeting was organized at Independence Day Park near Valluvar Kottam and started at 3.30pm
Main Agenda-


  • Mylapore Festival organized by Sundaram Finance- from 21st to 24th January 2009- 5.30- 9.00pm

  • Main cultural event-
    Folk dance
    Skit- street theater/ musical drama
    Mime/ variety programme
    Possibility of the visually challenged students skit on the day- Government Higher Secondary School For Blind

  • Selection committee- Headed by Murali and supported by Prithvi, Venkat, Jeyanthi, Bala, Lakshmi and Gunalan
    The venue for final selection will be confirmed by Saravanan at Fine Arts College
    The initial process will begin with our volunteers approaching colleges and then seeking permission to nominate their students for any of the three category of the events; college can nominate max of 1 team in each category
    The final selection will take place at common venue with no. of teams and time duration shall be discussed later

  • The volunteers to approach colleges are Kandaswami, Anna Adarsh, Valliammal, St Thomas Arts and Science, DG Vaishnav and Mar Gregorious- Bala, Gunalan, Sangeetha

  • The idea of ‘Make a Tree’- the college students can take part in this competition wherein the students will do a collage representing tree with various recyclable items and they get to display their art work at the event and best three will be rewarded- Tiru and Anitha

  • The volunteers approaching colleges can take this idea also with them as ask for nominations

  • Event preparations- stall in-charge and decorations
    Stall decorations to be done by Karthik and Saravanan( Fine Arts College student)- danglers and posters
    CSS stall can also be used
    Stall LCD display- Saravanan- referred by Sathyamoorthy
    The video content to be put on LCD will be gathered by Sudha Mohan, Dr. Ashwin and Lakshmi
    Flash content - to be designed by Tamilarasi
    Posters on the day of the event- to be designed by Charu and supported by Divya

  • An idea for putting up a cloth in the background and pasting/ sticking/ pin ups of environment related themes- requirement huge cloth material and required stationery

  • Games at the stall- ring games, mehendi hand painting (Nethra), face tattooing or hand tattooing (Saravanan)

  • Coupons for lucky draw- answer simple questions and take home prizes with their interest and preferences marked behind the card- Vasu idea development

  • At the stall- Dora costume arrangement- Swaminathan
    Display items at the stall- reused plastics by Prema- referred by Tiru

  • SHG team presence
    Murali has referred Jute bag unit at the venue
    the idea of paper bag preparation at the unit

  • The cloth bag distribution team- will involve in distributing cloth bags to shops in and around Mylapore- volunteers to be identified
    Stall Management Team- This team will man the stall and take queries and interaction with public
    Proposal to put up a huge board for people to pen down their views on environment-to be consulted with Event organizers

  • The media will be handled by Sathyamoorthy and Nethra shall use her community radio platform


New members who have attended the meeting are Nandhini; Tamilarasi, Sudha Mohan and Saravanan

  • Intro. About Gopinath, 3rd year Anna University student and his Sangharsh team’s efforts in helping deserving orphanages/ old age homes or destitute homes development- the musical event scheduled for March 27th 2010.

  • The CSS sponsorship for children’s toupe at Government School for Blind, Poonamallee - the request was forwarded by Murali

  • We had few members coming from Del TV and have expressed desire to telecast our video content in En Paer Maram and Road Safety.

MoM - Nov 09 (22nd Nov)

CSS Meeting- 22nd November 2009
Venue - Valluvar Kottam

Major discussions-

1. Children’s day event planned on 29th November when most CSS members celebrating their November birthday could join with children at Sadana- School for Deaf and Dumb

2. The event has been finalized to help with some basic requirements at the school

3. The expenses per head as been marked as Rs. 100; including lunch and other entertainment expenses

4. Tiru will confirm the requirements at the home

5. Entertainment at the home will be taken care by Prithvi- Tambola, Venkat- picture game, Swami Sir- word scramble, the music will be handled by REC college students music troupe

6. New members’ introduction followed by Mrs. Lakshmi’s idea on prompting environment among school children.
a. Mrs. Lakshmi is part of Parent Teacher association at PSBB, Tnagar and would like to rope in VII and VIII class students to draw up an elaborate plans to involve lower standard students in environment based events like painting, collage, sapling plating training and also to take up this cause during PTA meets through sapling distribution to parents and children on the day or even a felicitation of winners during assembly on any environment related games
b. CSS invites members to make this a successful venture for the children

7. Changes in Teams-
a. Aravanaippu- will be headed by Swaminathan Sir assisted by Charumathi
b. Reddrops- this will be handled by Venkat, Satish and Sathish(Thalai)
c. Child Abuse Prevention- will be headed by Nandhini and assisted by Balasaraswathy
d. Gramudharan- Team will be headed by Lata and assisted by Jagdish- follow up on SHG status at Vayalur and December plans for Meenabalpuram
e. Environment care group- Will headed by Hari, Varshitha and Vasu and assisted by Tiru
f. ECG finalized the volunteers who will be assisting Tiru and his Team in smooth sapling distribution
g. The first sapling will be given free while subsequent sapling costs Rs. 10

8. Nominated few homes and orphanages for corporate sponsorship through Prithvi

9. Julian, CRY is running a campaign on Right To Education bill for children below 14 year of age

10. Hari has forwarded request for Mr. Sundarmoorthy for helping his disabled brother and his sister

11. Murali will be addressing the School students of X and XII on career guidance this Friday 27th November 2009 from 1.30pm at Swaminathan Sir's Schoo

MoM - 3rd week August 09 (16th August)

1. Nalanda Updates-

  • Identify areas like slums and slum clearance board housing places for school children who have dropped out or stopped education due to financial reasons and draw up plans to bet them back to schools preferrably by next academic year.
  • Sponsorship for poor deserving students- requirement for Santhiya P studying at Saidapet Government school in XI has been accepted by Pasupathi and Sangeetha, an amount of Rs. 500 towards her education.
  • Another requirement for a college hostel student towards her hostel fees per month Rs 1500/-
  • A requirement for a school based in Pudhukottai has been decided to be referred any other NGO based there as it would be difficult to oversee the help at a far place.
  • A visually challenged student from MCC has a funding requirement
    Sridhar suggests CSS members to visit his employer's CSR division with definite proposals, plan to be chalked out.
  • SWARG- an NGO exclusive workingfor students education.
  • CSS wishes to thank Ms. Sindhu for being kind in sponsoring to 2 physically challenged students every month Rs. 250/-
2. Aravanaippu-
Jagdish has already been to slums in Mylapore and idenified 5 streets where more than 5500 people live. On discussing with the councillor they came to know that they require counselling on ill effects of tobacco products and basic hygiene among girls and pregnant ladies. The volunteers lead by Swami Sir, Jagdish and Anish will visit the are on Thrusday at 4.30pm Murali an Dr. Ashwin might join. Swami Sir plans to speak about swine flue precautions

3. VScribe-

  • VScribe is conducting Sports meet for Hearing impaired children studying at Schools
    The event is planned on 30th August at CP Ramaswamy Foundation at Alwarpet
  • The games to be conducted are Chess and Carrom
  • Prizes to be awarded for winners with participation certificate for participants
    there is no restriction on no. of participants
  • Parthiban will be the team lead for the event, supported by Jagdish.

4. ECG

  • 500 smses received till date from 26th July till 15th August 2009
  • Third successful week into SMS-a-SAPLING, already 300+ saplings planted across Chennai and more than 1000 Saplings distributed to CSS volunteers
  • Zones segregated and team leads for zones alloted, prominent ones- Prithvi- Adyar, Renga, Bharath- Perambur, Mylapore/Triplicane- Jagdish/ Anish, Nikesh- Tnagar
  • Tiru has been leading from the front.............................ably supported by Renga, Priya, Varshitha and Vasu
5. Gramudharan
  • Pradeep and Swami Sir have been visiting the Vayalur regularly, twice a month and monitoring the progress of the boys for cricket, they plan to hold a small tournament in Vayalur and then winners will be put to test with Chennai lads, starting September
  • Lata, Murali, Dr Ashwin were among few volunteers who have visited Vayalur this Sunday and held a meeting with the womens group, the guest of honour was Mrs. Gomathi a SHG leader in Chennai.

6. Guest of the Week
Olga from Goonj, a team exclusively looking after poor rural people including maximum usage of the discarded or reasonably good clothes, and any other articles even safety pins. They work all over India with instant support extended to disaster victims. At present collecting clothes with their major campaign starting on 23rd September till 3rd October 2009 called as 'Give India' interested people can visit www.goonj.org for details. CSS is collecting clothes on behalf of Goonj, interested people can contact Satish @98406 61732.

We are proud to announce 'Mahesh' as the Volunteer of the Month- July 2009. For his help in gathering blood donors on anniversary Day

8. Independence Day Celebrations
  • CSS's Volunteer Sathyamoorthy had a rare priviledge of hoisting Indian Tricolor on Independence day at a function organised by Annanagar West welfare association.
  • CSS was pleased to take part in the independence day celebrations of Gurukulam school, our warmest greetings to Capt. Nandkumar and his team of dedicated teachers at Kovalam school.

    Aravanaippu arranged for a birthday celebration at TNagar with kids from a nearby orphanage in the city
    Pradeep and Swami sir visited the village for sports training today
    Lata has posted a requirement for more milk tins for the child whose mother is suffering from Breast cancer
    Lata will follow up with Village panchayat team to help the lady suffering withcancer to be given work on compassionate grounds; and also speak to Tiru to get details on CHES supporting children afflicted by AIDS
